Jessie Ware’s Latest Project

London-based singer-songwriter Jessie Ware has unveiled details of her sixth studio album, titled Superbloom. Set for release on April 10 through Island/EMI, the record follows her 2023 effort That! Feels Good!, continuing her evolution in the pop landscape.

The Lead Single and Influences

Last week, Ware introduced the album’s first track, I Could Get Used To This, a polished pop number she calls the “opening statement of a new era.” Drawing inspiration from icons like Grace Jones, Whitney Houston, and Barbra Streisand, the song captures a glossy, timeless vibe.

Exploring Themes of Connection

Superbloom delivers a vibrant mix of Studio 54-inspired groove-pop, expanding on Ware’s signature euphoric sound. The album delves into universal desires for touch, pleasure, intimacy, and connection, creating an immersive listening experience.

Ware shared her creative mindset: “Since What’s Your Pleasure?, I’ve been trying out this fantasy world and escapism. I’m not the most by-the-book ‘pop star’, but I do like to play with dress-up, glamour and fun. While I love dance music, I wanted to dig deeper with this record; to connect with real relationships and appreciate the love I have, and the fears I have of losing it.”

Collaboration and Production

The project features contributions from producers James Ford, Barney Lister, Karma Kid, Jon Shave—who has worked with Charli XCX—and Stuart Price, known for his collaborations with Madonna and Pet Shop Boys. Ben Baptie, who has mixed tracks for Sault, Little Simz, and Adele, handled the final mixes.

Reflecting on the single, Ware noted: “‘I Could Get Used To This’ is an invitation into the world of this album. I wanted to set the scene of the world that I’m trying to paint in the album; romance, real love, performance, celebration and pleasure (always!) in a garden full of gods and goddesses. I wrote this song with Miranda Cooper, Sophia Brenan and Jon Shave who are legends in British pop music. I’ve always admired Miranda’s work so I’m incredibly glad to have a record with her. First key change I’ve ever done – I think – and exciting start to you hearing more from my work with Jon Shave and Barney Lister amongst the other fantastic collaborators on this project.”

Building on Past Success

Ware’s previous album That! Feels Good! secured her second Mercury Prize nomination, following her 2012 debut Devotion. It reached number three on the UK Albums Chart and marked her strongest performance yet on the US Top Album Sales chart, solidifying her status as a dynamic force in contemporary pop.
