A disturbing video captures the moment an Afghan national inquired about a 12-year-old girl’s age moments before allegedly raping her in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, last July. The footage, presented in court, shows 23-year-old Ahmad Mulakhil engaging the girl in conversation on the street. The two then proceed toward the location of the alleged assault.
Details of the Alleged Attack
Prosecutors state that Mulakhil and 24-year-old fellow Afghan Mohammad Kabir targeted the schoolgirl after spotting her in a nearby playground around 6 p.m. Kabir faces charges of attempting to strangle her and intending to abduct her for a sexual purpose, while Mulakhil is accused of multiple rapes occurring after 8 p.m.
In the video, Mulakhil asks the girl, “How old are you? 20? 19? 16?” When she responds “nineteen,” he replies, “19? Really?” The pair appears in additional CCTV footage leaving a park adjacent to the play area at approximately 6:05 p.m. on July 22.
Following the incident, surveillance shows the victim accompanying Mulakhil to a local shop, where he purchases two cans of energy drink. The girl was later discovered in a terrified state on the street, mumbling incoherently to herself.
Court Proceedings and Charges
During the second day of the trial at Warwickshire Crown Court, witnesses described the girl’s distressed condition. One account revealed that she confided, “Something happened to me,” and explicitly stated, “He raped me.” She mentioned pain in her back from being dragged and expressed fear that her attacker was still nearby in the park across the road.
The same witness recounted the girl’s claim that the assailant threatened to force her into a black BMW and transport her to Birmingham and London to rape her again. Another observer noted the girl’s appearance: “You could see she was petrified, frantic, and she was crying. She was looking over her shoulder, like mumbling to herself.”
Mulakhil has entered a guilty plea to one count of oral rape but denies charges of child abduction, two additional counts of rape, two sexual assaults, and taking indecent photographs of a child. Kabir denies intentional strangulation, committing an offense with intent to commit a sexual act, and attempting to abduct a child. Both men, who have no fixed address, remain in custody as the trial proceeds.
