Unseasonal Warmth Dominates Edmonton Forecast

While groundhog prognostications from eastern Canada suggest an early spring, Edmonton’s meteorological reality confirms immediate warming trends. The city is poised to experience significantly above-average temperatures throughout the first half of February, with potential record-breaking warmth midweek.

Temperature Records Under Threat

Meteorological data shows the current record high for February 4 stands at 9.4°C, set in 1991. Current forecasts indicate Wednesday could surpass this milestone with projected highs between 8°C and 12°C. Sunday’s -3°C high may mark the final sub-zero daytime temperature in the immediate forecast.

January concluded approximately three degrees warmer than historical averages, with the first week of February trending 8-10 degrees above seasonal norms. While a minor temperature dip is expected early next week, daytime highs are still projected to hover near 0°C – still exceeding typical February averages.

Precipitation Patterns

Freezing rain affected central Alberta overnight Sunday, but Edmonton appears clear of precipitation through the coming week. Northern regions will experience two systems bringing mixed precipitation: one arriving Tuesday night through Wednesday morning, followed by another Thursday. Both systems are expected to remain north of the capital region.

Detailed Edmonton Forecast

• Today: Mix of sun & cloud. High: 4°C
• Tonight: Cloudy periods. Evening: 2°C
• Tuesday: Sunny with scattered clouds. Low: -1°C / High: 4°C
• Wednesday: Partly cloudy. Low: 1°C / High: 10°C
• Thursday: Variable cloud cover. Low: 3°C / High: 7°C
• Friday: Mostly sunny. Low: -2°C / High: 4°C
• Saturday: Partly cloudy. Low: -3°C / High: 5°C

Climate models suggest continued mild conditions through mid-February, with no significant cold spells anticipated in the immediate outlook. The warming pattern aligns with broader climate trends observed across western Canada this winter.
