Rose Byrne captivated attendees at the 41st Annual Film Independent Spirit Awards in Hollywood on Sunday, showcasing a striking ensemble just one month after securing her first Golden Globe.

Red Carpet Elegance

The 46-year-old Australian actress turned heads in a form-fitting black gown featuring a bold midriff cutout. Layers of fabric adorned the right side and back, incorporating vibrant shades of blue, yellow, and green. Her brunette hair, parted in the middle, flowed into a sleek updo that framed her face perfectly.

Byrne accessorized with silver earrings and coordinating rings. Her makeup highlighted smoky eye shadow, mascara, warm blush on her cheekbones, and a subtle nude lip tint, completing a glamorous look.

She arrived at The Hollywood Palladium, joining stars like Kaia Gerber and Kirsten Dunst on the red carpet.

On-Stage Moments and Nominations

Byrne presented the Best Documentary award, which Alisa Payne won for The Perfect Neighbor. She also earned a nomination for Best Lead Performance as Linda in the 2025 comedic drama If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, released in October last year.

The film, starring Conan O’Brien, Danielle Macdonald, Christian Slater, and A$AP Rocky, follows a woman navigating her crumbling life, her daughter’s illness, an absent husband, a missing person, and a peculiar therapist relationship.

Golden Globe Milestone

Byrne’s portrayal drew widespread acclaim, culminating in her first Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy last month. In her acceptance speech, she humorously explained her husband Bobby Cannavale’s absence: “Thanks to my husband Bobby. He isn’t here because we’re getting a bearded dragon, and he went to a reptile expo in New Jersey.”

She continued, “I didn’t prepare anything, but – I didn’t sing in this movie, guys. Thank you so much my fellow nominees, I just can’t believe I’m here.” Byrne added levity: “Thank you for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. We shot this movie in 25 days for like $8.50! This is like a tiny film, so this is a huge thing to be up here. And my brother’s my date! Thanks, George. Thanks to, you know, my mum and dad who bought Paramount Plus so they could watch the Golden Globes from Sydney.”

Reflections on Success

Reflecting on the film’s reception, Byrne shared: “I knew, reading the script, that it was singular and unique and unbelievable. But the rest, I could never anticipate.”

She elaborated on its unexpected resonance: “I’ve given up trying to figure out what will resonate and what won’t. But I knew it was extraordinary and special, and I just knew it was an opportunity. I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I cannot mess this up.’ It’s a gift for an actress. And I got to try everything: I was stretched. I was challenged – and in a feature film, too, which is so rare.”

Awards Season Ahead

Awards momentum builds for Byrne, with her first Oscar nomination for Best Actress upcoming on March 15. She also secured a nod for Outstanding Female Actor in a Leading Role at the Actor Awards.

Prolific Career

Byrne recently described motherhood as challenging. Her credits include Marie Antoinette (2006), 28 Weeks Later (2008), Insidious (2010), Bridesmaids (2011), and the series Platonic.
