Reds’ Joe Brial Punch Goes Unpunished in Waratahs Clash

In a heated Super Rugby Pacific opener at Allianz Stadium, Queensland Reds flanker Joe Brial landed a punch on a New South Wales Waratahs opponent, but escaped immediate sanction from officials.

Waratahs Secure Convincing Win

The Waratahs dominated the Reds 36-12 in Round 1 action. Tries from Clem Halaholo, Max Jorgensen (two), Isaac Kailea, and Teddy Wilson powered the home side to victory. Lawson Creighton added four conversions and a penalty.

The Reds responded with scores from Tim Ryan and Brial himself just before halftime, with Harry McLaughlin-Phillips converting one.

Controversial Moment Sparks Debate

Footage from the match captures Brial delivering a clear punch during a tense breakdown. Referees overlooked the incident in real-time, issuing no yellow or red card.

Post-match reviews have yet to result in a citation, leaving Brial unpunished as of now. Sources indicate the moment has fueled discussions on officiating consistency in Super Rugby.

Brial shone otherwise, scoring a try and contributing strongly in defense alongside captain Fraser McReight.

Looking Ahead

The Waratahs build momentum from their strong start, while the Reds aim to regroup. Fans await any updates on potential judicial action against Brial.
