Bad Bunny launches a new acting venture following his standout Super Bowl LX performance earlier this month. The 31-year-old Puerto Rican artist, Benito Ocasio, takes the lead in the historical drama Porto Rico, a feature film set in his native Puerto Rico.
Star-Studded Cast and Production Team
Rapper Residente, born René Pérez Joglar, directs the project in his feature film debut. Bad Bunny shares the screen with Javier Bardem, Edward Norton, and Viggo Mortensen. Five-time Oscar winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu serves as executive producer.
Bad Bunny’s Growing Acting Portfolio
This role builds on Bad Bunny’s acting experience. He debuted in 2021 with F9 and Narcos: Mexico. In 2022, he appeared in the action thriller Bullet Train. He followed with a part alongside Gael García Bernal in 2023’s Cassandro and starred in Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing last year. Bad Bunny also hosted Saturday Night Live in October for the season 51 premiere.
Residente shared his vision: “I have dreamed of making a film about my country since I was a child. Puerto Rico’s true history has always been surrounded by controversy. This film is a reaffirmation of who we are – told with the intensity and honesty that our history deserves.”
Edward Norton added: “This film sits in a tradition of films we deeply love, from The Godfather to Gangs of New York, that both thrill us with visceral drama and iconic characters and eras while also forcing us to face up to the shadow story under the American narrative of idealism.” He praised Residente: “Everybody knows what a poet of language and rhythm René is. Now they’re going to see what a visual visionary he is as well. And bringing him and Bad Bunny together to tell the true story of Puerto Rico’s roots is going to be like a flame finding the stick of dynamite that’s been waiting for it.”
WWE Match Buzz with Logan Paul
The announcement coincides with renewed interest in Bad Bunny’s wrestling pursuits. Logan Paul reveals he wants to face Bad Bunny in a WWE match, calling it “the biggest wrestling match of all time.” Bad Bunny previously competed against Damian Priest in WWE in 2021.
Paul explained his pre-Super Bowl comments on his Impaulsive podcast, where he downplayed excitement for the halftime show to generate buzz. He noted: “Bad Bunny is a world-renowned superstar… He’s a good wrestler – he can f***ing wrestle! There have been talks about maybe us wrestling… I would love to do it.”
