Nestled in the quiet village of Wellesbourne in southern Warwickshire, Kolshi Premier Indian Restaurant claims the title of the UK’s finest Indian eatery. This family-run spot triumphed at the Oceanic Awards Nation’s Curry Awards 2026, held in Huddersfield, beating stiff competition through votes from industry experts.

A Surprise Location for Culinary Excellence

Far from bustling city hubs like Birmingham’s Balti Triangle or Manchester’s Curry Mile, Wellesbourne—known for its historic market east of Stratford-upon-Avon—houses this award-winner on Warwick Road, near the King’s Head pub. The spacious dining area features a central bar serving only soft drinks, with a nearby off-licence for those seeking alcohol.

Exploring the Menu on a Quiet Monday Evening

A warm welcome led to a table in the rear. The extensive menu blends classic dishes like jalfrezis and baltis with Bangladeshi heritage specialties and street food starters, offering fresh choices beyond standard takeaways.

Standout Starters

Starters included chicken pakora (£4.95), with a unique bhaji-like texture; succulent lamb chops (£6.95), pink inside and tender; and Chicken 65 (£4.95), packed with 65 spices. Staff advised eating the Chicken 65 by hand for maximum crispness and flavor, enhancing every bite.

Innovative Mains That Impress

Trusting staff recommendations yielded king prawns with pumpkin—a rare dish rooted in Bangladeshi festival traditions. The rich, spicy sauce balanced pumpkin’s sweetness perfectly, paired ideally with chilli-cheese naan. Other highlights: fiery xacuti chicken (£8.95), stimulating without overwhelming, and creamy chicken tikka masala (£9.50).

What Sets Kolshi Premier Apart

Premium ingredients shine in diverse, meticulously prepared dishes. Knowledgeable, friendly servers engage like family, answering questions with chef-level insight. Regulars greet staff by name, reflecting its status as a community favorite since opening less than five years ago. Elegant decor and attentive service elevate the experience.

While tastes vary, Kolshi Premier delivers exceptional curries with warmth and precision, justifying its top national ranking.
