A fierce power struggle grips the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) following the death of its leader, Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, known as El Mencho. Authorities confirm he was killed in Jalisco state, unleashing chaos across Mexico.

Family Dynamics and Succession Challenges

El Mencho’s son, Rubén Oseguera González or El Menchito, remains incarcerated in the United States. His other son and stepson lack the necessary experience to assume command of the violent organization.

Spotlight falls on El Mencho’s ex-wife, Rosalinda González Valencia, 63, alias La Jefa (The Boss). She plays a key role in cartel operations, drawing on decades of involvement in money laundering. The couple separated in 2018, and they share three children.

La Negra: The Daughter’s Role

Jessica Johanna Oseguera González, known as La Negra, is El Mencho’s daughter. Both she and her mother faced brief imprisonment for laundering cartel funds but have since maintained lower profiles.

Speculation grows that La Jefa could seize leadership, leveraging her expertise in funneling illicit profits through shell companies and hospitality businesses. As niece of El Maradona, founder of the Milenio Cartel—which splintered into the CJNG—Valencia brings deep criminal lineage.

Narco Queens Duo?

A potential alliance between La Jefa and La Negra could crown them as Mexico’s most formidable narco queens. However, experts doubt a woman will lead this militarized group.

Mexico City-based security consultant David Saucedo states: “It’s likely that one of four or five top commanders will emerge as the next leader.”

CJNG’s Brutal Legacy

Founded in 2009, the CJNG excels in ruthless tactics, targeting military assets like helicopters. The group innovated drone-launched explosives and roadside mines during territorial battles, solidifying its reputation as one of Mexico’s most aggressive cartels.
