A Nova Scotia government investigation into the death of a 19-year-old Walmart employee found in a walk-in bakery oven at a Halifax store concludes the equipment operated properly.

Workplace Safety Findings

The province’s Labour Department examined the October 2024 incident and identified no safety violations that contributed to the tragedy. Inspectors confirmed the oven’s good working condition and found no widespread concerns with this model.

Police Investigation Outcome

Halifax police wrapped up their probe in November 2024, ruling the death non-suspicious with no evidence of foul play. Investigators reviewed surveillance video, interviewed witnesses, and determined no other individuals were involved.

Victim Background

The Maritime Sikh Society identified the woman as Gursimran Kaur, originally from India. She immigrated to Canada with her mother, who also worked at the store.
