With countless new games and backlogs demanding attention, the 2021 Kid A Mnesia Exhibition on PS5 emerges as a strangely captivating virtual experience. Radiohead fans will find it especially rewarding, transforming the band’s experimental albums into an interactive journey.

Radiohead’s Bold Evolution

Radiohead dominated the late 1990s and early 2000s with angst-filled lyrics and guitar-heavy tracks that stood apart from mainstream rock. Following the landmark OK Computer, the band shifted to electronic textures and abstract themes. Kid A, released in 2000, divided listeners—some hailed its innovation, others found it distant. Amnesiac in 2001 built on those sessions, deepening the experimental edge. These albums shine best as complete listens, their odd creativity forming a perfect base for a virtual showcase.

Surreal Worlds from Album Archives

Powered by Unreal Engine and featuring 20-year-old artwork, Kid A Mnesia Exhibition delivers a walking simulator-style adventure. Players wander scratchy sketched woods into bunkers where Kid A and Amnesiac tracks unfold creatively. No complex controls— just exploration of paths, rooms, and corridors pulsing with music.

Standout Immersive Moments

One chamber fills with swirling paper pages of sketches and lyrics during a reimagined “In Limbo,” mirroring mental chaos amid swirling ideas. Elsewhere, a central box hums with bass from “Packed Like Sardines In A Crushed Tin Box.” Cartoon bears with jagged teeth surround it; stepping on squares unleashes lyrics, distorted guitars, and more, evoking modern life’s confining pressures.

The two-hour experience brims with such abstract vignettes, inviting players to interpret Radiohead’s surreal visuals alongside the sounds.

A Revitalized Album Dive

This exhibition refreshes Kid A and Amnesiac, delivering a freaky yet intriguing twist beyond passive listening. Free on PS5, PC, and Mac, it highlights gaming’s potential to animate music in virtual realms, inspiring other artists to experiment boldly.
