Coronation Street viewers express heartbreak over fears that popular character Betsy Swain may depart the soap following a noticeable change in actress Sydney Martin’s appearance.

Betsy’s Dramatic Storyline

Betsy Swain, played by Sydney Martin, joined the ITV soap in 2024 as the daughter of Detective Sergeant Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers). She quickly became central to major plotlines, including the brutal murder of her boyfriend Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan) and the surprising return of her presumed-dead mother Becky (Amy Cudden).

Recent episodes heightened tensions with a flashforward showing a distressed Betsy discovering a dead body, putting five residents at risk: Theo Silverton (James Cartwright), Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon), Maggie Driscoll (Pauline McLynn), Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances Brown), and Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard).

Sydney Martin’s New Look Sparks Exit Speculation

Sydney Martin, known for her blonde hair, recently debuted a brunette style. She shared a video on Instagram showcasing the transformation at the salon, captioning it: “She’s back home. @jacki_hair_beauty obsessed with you as always.”

While many praise the new look, some fans worry about continuity and interpret it as a sign of her exit. Comments include: “You look amazing but how will that work with continuity?” Another viewer asks: “I was thinking this – is she leaving?” A third echoes: “Same here.” One fan laments: “Nooooo.” Others reassure: “It’ll just get written in surely?”

Co-Stars Celebrate the Change

On-screen mother Vicky Myers responds: “Love it! You’re beautiful.” Sally Carman-Duttine adds: “STUNNER!” Georgia Taylor, who plays Toyah Habeeb, says: “Love!!” Emmerdale’s Katie Hill (Sarah Sugden) exclaims: “Omg you did it!! Love love love.” Cait Fitton, portraying Betsy’s best friend Lauren Bolton, enthuses: “Aghhh!!! I cannot cope with, you look unreal bestie.”

Coronation Street airs weekdays at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
