Crystal Dynamics announces its fourth round of layoffs in 12 months, impacting 20 employees across development and central operations roles. The studio maintains full commitment to upcoming titles Tomb Raider: Catalyst and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis.

Layoff Timeline

Prior reductions include 17 staff let go in March last year, an unspecified number in August, and just under 30 in November. These actions follow a major restructuring at the studio.

Official Statement

Crystal Dynamics shares in a LinkedIn post: “We never make these decisions lightly, particularly after the restructuring we underwent last year.”

The studio explains, “As our current projects move into new phases of development, we continuously take a hard look at our team structures to ensure they align with our long-term studio goals.”

Further, Crystal Dynamics notes, “While we always strive to transition our people into new roles whenever possible, we have unfortunately reached a point where these departures are necessary. We are incredibly grateful for the passion and hard work these individuals have poured into our games and our studio.”

Affected team members receive severance packages and job search support. The studio invites companies with openings to get in touch.

Future Projects

Crystal Dynamics reaffirms dedication to Tomb Raider: Catalyst, the next mainline entry, and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a remake of the original game. Both projects launched to the public last December.
