Former NRL and Wallabies star Wendell Sailor has sparked controversy with a social media outburst following his recent court appearance over two alcohol-related incidents.

Court Details Emerge

Sailor pleaded guilty to charges stemming from aggressive behavior at a Sydney bar in November 2024 and resisting arrest during a drunken episode in Wollongong in January 2025. Court documents reveal that nine police officers were needed to restrain him after he became heavily intoxicated, acted aggressively toward a taxi driver and officers, and stumbled into the road while tensing his arms against a police vehicle.

The Sydney incident at Pappy’s Bar involved Sailor becoming intoxicated and confrontational, shouting threats such as “F***ing call the cops and see what happens” and “Do you know who I am? You’re f***ing done.” He chased another man, leading police to intervene. Charges included remaining near a licensed premises, intimidation, and resisting police. The Wollongong event occurred while he was on bail for the earlier case.

Instagram Reaction

After Monday’s court hearing, Sailor took to Instagram with a pointed post featuring a 2017 photo of himself with US actress Amber Heard from the Manny Pacquiao vs. Jeff Horn fight in Brisbane. The image bore an overlay reading “fake news!!,” captioned “they sent 9” alongside crying and laughing emojis—a clear nod to the nine officers involved in his arrest.

The post formed part of a larger photo dump. Sailor shared a Tupac Shakur quote: “You can replace my presence but you’ll never replace the heart that came with it.” He also reposted a message from his lawyer, Adam Houda: “Yes, heroes exist in real life. We call her Mom,” honoring his mother Alison, who raised him after his birth mother Penny’s death last year. A photo showed him embracing Alison post-Brisbane Broncos match.

Sailor praised his son Tristan for earning a spot in the English Super League Team of the Week as five-eighth and sent a heartfelt note to his daughter Matisse: “To my daughter, I appreciate you – I got this, love u beautiful girl.” Additional posts highlighted icons like Michael Jordan and Mike Tyson.

Legal Next Steps

His lawyer has filed a dismissal application based on a psychiatric report citing mental health grounds. If denied, sentencing is scheduled for Friday, March 27, 2026. Sailor, who currently works with Triple M, faces potential consequences from these charges.
