Michael Carrick faces challenges in sustaining Manchester United’s momentum as the team resumes action after the international break. With FA Cup quarter-finals dominating the schedule, the Red Devils enjoy another week off before an intensive training camp in Ireland. The squad heads to Dublin on April 6 for a four-night stay ahead of the season’s final seven matches.

Marcus Rashford’s Transfer Clause Lapses

The £26 million buy option in Marcus Rashford’s loan agreement with Barcelona expired at the end of March. This development forces the Catalan club to negotiate a transfer fee like any other suitor for the England forward.

Rashford seeks a permanent move, but Barcelona’s precarious finances may complicate matters. Sporting director Deco recently noted that the three months until summer feel like an eternity when discussing potential signings like Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez. United could demand a higher fee now, potentially offering no favors despite Rashford’s preferences.

Harry Maguire Risks Extended Ban

Harry Maguire’s participation in upcoming matches hangs in the balance after the Football Association charged him with improper conduct. The 33-year-old England defender received a straight red card in Manchester United’s 2-2 draw at Bournemouth on March 20 for pulling Evanilson’s jersey in the penalty area.

His heated reaction toward referee Stuart Attwell and fourth official Matt Donohue prompted the charge. The FA statement reads: “Harry Maguire has been charged after being sent off in the 78th minute of Man Utd’s Premier League match against Bournemouth on March 20. It’s alleged that the defender acted in an improper manner and/or abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards the fourth official following his dismissal. Harry Maguire has until April 2 to provide a response.”

Maguire already faces suspension for the April 13 clash against Leeds, with potential extension depending on the hearing and any appeal from United.

Carrick Questions Penalty Decisions

Carrick expressed frustration over officiating, claiming United deserved a second penalty. Amad Diallo went down under Adrien Truffert’s challenge, deemed insufficient by VAR after Bruno Fernandes scored from the spot earlier.

“We should have had another penalty,” Carrick stated. “Obviously, if you get one, you must get the other. It’s pretty much identical for me, two-hand grab. Either way, [the ref] got one wrong, but to give one and not give the other, I can’t get my head around it. I think it’s crazy. It’s a bit baffling, really. Because of that, they score, and then it’s chaos after that, really. We should have had another penalty, and the game would have been totally different.”
