Beverley Callard, the 69-year-old Coronation Street star and I’m A Celebrity contestant, has shared a health update following her breast cancer surgery and a challenging two-month wait for results.
Diagnosis and Surgery Overview
Callard announced her early-stage breast cancer diagnosis on February 6. Two weeks later, she underwent surgery at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, where surgeons removed the tumor and several lymph nodes as a precaution.
Her consultant confirmed the procedure went smoothly and successfully excised the cancer. In a recent Instagram video, Callard explained the findings: the cancer had spread to one lymph node but remained small and did not affect the others.
Lymph Node Explanation and Analysis
Callard described the lymph nodes as a “staircase,” noting that cancer typically progresses upward if present. Surgeons removed three nodes, with malignancy detected only in the first.
This affected node has been sent to a lab in America for further testing to assess its aggressiveness. Results, expected in a few weeks, will determine her treatment path.
Treatment Options Ahead
“If it’s aggressive, then I will have to undergo chemo first and then, after that, radiotherapy,” Callard stated. “If it’s not aggressive, I will have the radiotherapy as was planned.”
She expressed mixed emotions: relief over the successful surgery but concern due to the lymph node involvement and ongoing wait.
“In one way, it was kind of good news that the surgeries worked well, which I’m really pleased about, but because it’s in the lymph nodes, it’s still a worry,” she added.
Background and Recent Challenges
The diagnosis came shortly after Callard relocated to Dublin for her role on the Irish soap Fair City. Earlier this month, she revealed delays in receiving results due to hospital backlogs, admitting she “cannot paint a smile on her face.”
Callard recently appeared on the I’m A Celebrity South Africa spin-off, pre-recorded in September 2025 with a live final scheduled later this month. Some viewers expressed confusion and concern, questioning the timing given her health battle, unaware of the pre-recording.
