Xavi Simons has suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), sidelining him for approximately eight months. The Tottenham midfielder picked up the injury during his team’s 1-0 victory over Wolves on Saturday, ruling him out for the rest of the Premier League relegation battle.

Injury Details

Simons twisted his knee on the turf at Molineux while chasing a ball toward the byline in the 63rd minute. Medical staff stretchered him off the pitch, confirming the devastating ACL tear that also ends his chances of featuring for the Netherlands at this summer’s World Cup finals.

Blow to Tottenham’s Survival Fight

The injury delivers a major setback to Tottenham and new manager Roberto De Zerbi, who relied on the 23-year-old’s creativity to avoid relegation. Despite securing their first league win in 16 matches against Wolves, Spurs sit 18th in the table, two points adrift of West Ham in 17th with four games remaining.

De Zerbi already managed without nine injured players at Wolves and saw striker Dominic Solanke suffer a muscle problem during the match. Tottenham faces Aston Villa next on Sunday.

Simons’ Emotional Response

Simons shared his heartbreak on Instagram. “They say life can be cruel and today it feels that way,” he wrote. “My season has come to an abrupt end and I’m just trying to process it. Honestly, I’m heartbroken. None of it makes sense. All I’ve wanted to do is fight for my team and now the ability to do that has been snatched away from me, along with the World Cup.”
