Mason Mount hosts a special Make-A-Wish UK event at St George’s Park, managing Wishes United—a team of 11 children with critical illnesses—alongside Luke Shaw. Clear blue skies shine over the national training centre as Mount fulfills dreams on the indoor pitch following Manchester United’s recent victory over Brentford.

Heartwarming Charity Match

The opposition features mascots from Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Portsmouth, led by Jamie Redknapp. ‘I wanted to be Fred the Red,’ Mount says excitedly after the children outmaneuver Moonchester and Gunnersaurus Rex.

Mount planned the event for 18 months with his brother Lewis, drawing inspiration from a prior Make-A-Wish UK collaboration with Disney. ‘It really touched me, and it was tough to leave at the end,’ he recalls. ‘I’m a footballer, but there’s more to life than just football.’

The immersive two-day experience lets children eat, sleep, and train like professionals. Highlights include chauffeur service to St George’s Park, England training facilities, overnight stays, and tunnel walks with video messages from favorite players. Conor Gallagher called in, and Mount funded the entire event himself. ‘Speaking to all the kids and meeting some of the families, it just means so much,’ Mount adds.

Premier League Ambitions

After the children depart in personalized kits, Mount shares his goals: securing the Premier League title with Manchester United next season, increasing his impact at Old Trafford, and earning an England recall post-World Cup.

‘Yeah, it’s a goal: I want to win the Premier League,’ Mount declares. ‘Obviously I’ve won the Champions League already (with Chelsea), but can we do that? Yes, I think we can.’

He highlights United’s strong showings against top sides like Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal. The recent FA Cup triumph offers a glimpse of potential glory. Mount anticipates a demanding 2025-26 season with Champions League involvement. ‘It’s Manchester United. We don’t want to play 40 games a season. We want to play a lot more,’ he says, emphasizing the thrill of high-stakes matches.

United merits Champions League status, Mount insists, delivering the excitement fans crave at Old Trafford.

Praise for Michael Carrick

Mount endorses Michael Carrick’s leadership since January. ‘You can see the way we play and how we’ve performed,’ he notes. Carrick’s calm, experienced approach instills confidence, aiding the team’s surge.

Despite early injuries under Carrick, Mount feels valued. ‘He was saying, “I want you back, you’re a massive part of the team,”‘ Mount reveals.

Overcoming Injuries and England Hopes

Injuries limited Mount to 30 starts over three years since his £60million move from Chelsea in 2023. Yet, he views this season as progress. ‘I’m in a really good position now to kick on,’ the 27-year-old states.

Mount eyes an England return under Thomas Tuchel, adding to his 36 caps ahead of the home Euros. ‘Thomas knows me as a player and as a person inside out,’ he says, determined to regain momentum next season.
