Radio host Fifi Box, 49, recently endured a frightening medical scare following a bizarre accident that caused intense pain and partial paralysis in her jaw and face.
The Unexpected Collision
During a car trip on Wednesday, Box accidentally collided with co-host Brendan ‘Fev’ Fevola. An earring post—the thin rod that goes through the ear—pierced her neck in the mishap. ‘I screamed. I was sure my ear was bleeding,’ she recounted.
Symptoms Emerge
Soon after, while chewing gum, Box felt throbbing jaw pain. By lunchtime, she could not open her mouth or eat. The issue persisted through dinner. ‘I thought I was headed to the emergency ward, I was in so much trouble,’ she shared with listeners on Thursday’s episode of the Hit Network’s Fifi, Fev and Nick show.
Box suspected nerve damage from the puncture. ‘I’ve jabbed like a nerve or something,’ she explained. ‘It felt like I’d given myself nerve damage to the point where I couldn’t eat yesterday.’
AI Chatbot Weighs In
Consulting show producer James Blake’s chatbot, Claude, Box described the incident. The AI responded: ‘That sounds properly concerning, James.’
It analyzed: ‘She punctured her neck with an earring post and then lost the ability to chew and felt facial paralysis a few minutes later. That’s not normal at all. And honestly, she should get medical attention right away.’
Claude warned of potential nerve damage, infection, or worse, given the neck’s vital structures like nerves and blood vessels. It urged immediate medical evaluation at a doctor, urgent care, or A&E.
