During an interview shared on the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Instagram, a commenter stated, ‘No one gives a s**t about your opinion Lena.’ Yelich echoed the sentiment simply with ‘No one.’
Lena Dunham’s Memoir Sparks Renewed Interest
In her memoir Famesick, released last month, Dunham, 39, reflects on her past relationship with producer Jack Antonoff, 42. She describes overlooking signs in 2017 when Antonoff spent significant time in the studio with a ‘teen pop star,’ believed to be Lorde, 29. Dunham recalls finding the star ‘weeping into Jack’s lap’ one day.
Dunham notes she maintained boundaries while flirting with others but admits the internet highlighted potential issues through detailed analyses, including compelling PowerPoints that prompted her to reassess events.
Persistent Rumors of a Romantic Involvement
Rumors have long circulated about a romantic link between Antonoff and Lorde, his frequent collaborator. Speculation peaked around Lorde’s 2017 album Melodrama, produced by Antonoff in the apartment-studio he shared with Dunham. A viral PowerPoint presentation claimed they began a relationship in April 2016, months before Antonoff and Dunham’s December 2017 breakup after five years together.
The timeline cited their meeting around 2014-2015, predating Antonoff and Dunham’s 2012 start. Post-breakup reports in January 2018 suggested Antonoff was seeing someone else, followed by sightings of him and Lorde embracing in Auckland in February 2018.
Denials from All Parties
All involved have denied any affair. In 2018, Dunham told The Cut she respected the PowerPoint creator’s effort, calling it ‘very good’ and ‘funny,’ though embarrassing. She added, ‘I don’t think anything happened between them… I have never spoken to Ella [Lorde] about it.’
Antonoff stated on social media, ‘Normally I would never address rumors but I resent having the most important friendships and working relationships in my life reduced to dumb hetero normative gossip. Those relationships are deeply important and sacred. With that said, I’m not seeing anyone. lol.’
Lorde clarified on X, ‘Guys… Jack and I are not dating, for the last time. I love him, he’s awesome, but we’re not dating! Please!’ In 2021, she described their bond on Australia’s Hit Network as a ‘platonic marriage,’ saying, ‘We’re in it for life… We don’t seem to get sick of each other.’
Lorde reiterated in a New York Times interview amid Solar Power promotion, rejecting claims it was a ‘Jack Antonoff record.’ She called such views ‘insulting’ and ‘sexist,’ emphasizing, ‘I’ve made a Lorde record and he’s helped me make it and very much deferred to me on production and arrangement.’
Yelich maintains an active Instagram presence with 27.8k followers, primarily sharing proud posts about her daughter. Lorde has not publicly addressed Dunham’s memoir claims.
