Australian football icon Mark Viduka delivers a heartfelt message to Socceroos players Riley McGree and Sam Silvera as Middlesbrough prepares for their Championship playoff first leg against Southampton at Riverside Stadium on Saturday night AEDT.

Viduka’s Legacy at Middlesbrough

The 50-year-old striker, who played for Middlesbrough from 2004 to 2007, netted 26 goals in 72 appearances. Fans remember his impact fondly, and he continues to follow the club’s promotion bid to the Premier League.

Encouraging Words from the Legend

In a club video, Viduka expresses his deep connection to Middlesbrough. “Just want to say how much the club means to me,” he states. “I spent three years there and had some great times, I made a lot of good friends.”

He adds to the supporters: “To the fans, we had so many good nights together, it was a fond part of my career.” Viduka wishes the team success: “I wish the boys at Boro the best of luck and hopefully you can get back into the Premier League where we belong.”

He concludes with the Teesside motto “We Shall Be,” symbolizing defiance, pride, and belief—translated from the Latin ‘Erimus.’

Middlesbrough’s Playoff Push

Middlesbrough held top-two spots for much of the Championship season but slipped to fifth after a winless run in March and April. They enter the playoffs with momentum from a four-game unbeaten streak, aiming for the Wembley final and Premier League return.

McGree, who joined in 2022, impresses with his tenacity and goal-scoring eye, while Silvera bolsters the current squad.

Spying Incident Adds Tension

Tensions rise ahead of the match after Middlesbrough staff spotted an individual, believed to be a Southampton performance analyst, recording training from behind a bush at Rockliffe Park. The man deleted videos and photos from his phone and refused to identify himself.

Middlesbrough reported the breach of EFL rules on spying. Southampton faces charges for violating regulations and confirms full cooperation with the ongoing investigation.
