Cody Simpson, the 29-year-old Australian singer, announces a serious vocal cord hemorrhage that forces him to pause his music career temporarily.
Discovery of the Injury
Simpson shares a social media photo of himself connected to an EKG monitor, detailing his health struggle. “Hey guys. I originally thought I could keep this private but it’s time I share what I’ve been going through. Just over a month ago we discovered a serious haemorrhage on one of my vocal cords,” he writes.
The injury stems from pushing through an undiagnosed sinus infection during studio sessions. “It occurred due to my overzealousness in the studio singing, through a sinus infection I didn’t know I had. Assumed it was just fatigue and kept showing up to the studio until one day I could no longer sing,” Simpson explains.
Career Setbacks and Vocal Rest
The condition disrupts promotional events and delays his album and singles. Simpson undergoes weeks of intermittent vocal rest, canceling TV and radio appearances. Doctors prescribe two more weeks of silence to prevent surgery, which requires extended recovery.
Creative Adaptation
Undeterred, Simpson returns to the studio as a silent lyricist, collaborating with others and composing melodies on guitar. “I’m back in the studio now writing strictly as a lyricist on mute with my collaborators, and hearing/writing my vocal melodies on my guitar (which I will eventually replace with my voice when I’m able to). Where there’s a will, there’s a way,” he states.
He views the challenge positively: “I’d like to bring you on the journey. I’ve been extremely up and down but am now reframing this as a realignment for the long-term good.”
Recent Fitness Gains and Promotions
Simpson recently shifts from swimming to gym training, showcasing a more muscular build. Last month in Los Angeles, he struts across the Hollywood Walk of Fame, promoting his single “When It Comes to Loving You.”
The music video features him shirtless, covered in fake blood during a gritty fight scene, echoing Brad Pitt’s Tyler Durden from Fight Club. He poses before a billboard displaying his image with the slogan: “The first rule of Cody Simpson is you do not talk about Cody Simpson.” Simpson captions behind-the-scenes Instagram photos: “one of the happier chaps.”
Personal Life Update
Post-split from swimmer Emma McKeon, Simpson addresses romance rumors, including links to influencer Adelia Clark. He confirms taking “me time” on Instagram and TikTok.
