A family is grappling with the profound trauma following a violent home invasion on a rural property that left a couple seriously injured. Keith Blessing, 75, and his wife, Diane Blessing, 72, are currently receiving hospital care on the Gold Coast after a 34-year-old man allegedly broke into their home and attacked them with a knife on Friday.
Intruder Shot After Attempting Re-entry
The situation escalated when the alleged intruder reportedly attempted to re-enter the residence. At that point, the man was shot.
Family Expresses Gratitude Amidst Ordeal
Speaking outside the Gold Coast University Hospital, the couple’s daughter, Kathy, described the event as a deeply distressing experience. “We would like to thank everyone who has supported our family; it has been comforting to know we have the support of the wider community,” she stated. “This has been deeply traumatising to our family, and no family should ever have to go through this.”
Parents’ Courage Highlighted
Kathy emphasized her immense pride in her parents’ actions during the harrowing incident. “We’re very proud of our parents and their bravery,” she said. She also provided an update on their recovery, noting, “They are recovering in the hospital here and getting excellent care. We have a long road ahead.”
Charges Filed Against Alleged Intruder
Authorities have identified the alleged intruder as Joshua Dylan Trethewey, 34. He has been charged with two counts of wounding with intent to murder. Reports indicate that he is currently in an induced coma.
