Dua Lipa and Callum Turner Celebrate Lavish Sicilian Nuptials
Details have emerged from the extravagant wedding celebration of singer Dua Lipa and actor Callum Turner, which took place over the weekend in Sicily. The couple spared no expense for their star-studded reception, treating approximately 200 guests to an unforgettable party filled with elaborate desserts and dancing at the historic Villa Valguarnera in Bagheria, east of Palermo.
The al fresco ceremony, which followed an official civil ceremony six days prior at Marylebone Town Hall, was a spectacle of personalized touches and grand gestures. The bride, 30, and groom, 36, orchestrated a three-day event culminating in a breathtaking celebration at the 18th-century mansion.
A Ceremony Adorned with Romantic Details
The festivities commenced in the late afternoon, with Sir Elton John reportedly performing his hit song ‘Your Song’ during the ceremony. While images of the couple on their wedding day have not yet been widely shared, the event’s scale and grandeur suggest it was a highlight of the celebrity social calendar.
Dua Lipa is understood to have worn a diamond-embellished gown designed by Donatella Versace, who was also present at a pre-wedding cocktail party. The bride made a striking entrance around 6 p.m. local time, arriving down a long driveway lined with vibrant bougainvillea trees.
The ceremony itself was held in front of the villa, with chairs arranged in a semi-circle around a central gazebo. Attendees were provided with handkerchiefs embroidered with the poignant phrase, ‘Stay mad with me forever,’ and each chair was adorned with white silk ribbons and elegant white flowers. Guests also received white and red embroidered fans featuring cupid hearts and the initials ‘D&C’.
A Culinary Journey and Night of Merriment
Following the vows, guests were treated to a wedding banquet within the villa’s halls, curated by Michelin-recognized chef Tony Lo Coco. The menu featured traditional Sicilian dishes such as Anelletti alla Norma, panelle, and crocché, followed by classic desserts like cannoli and cassata.
The villa’s interior was lavishly decorated with peonies and hyacinths, and photo booths were set up for guests to capture memorable moments. The backdrop for these booths was a curtain embroidered with ‘Dua&Callum’.
A spectacular 10-minute firework display illuminated the night sky just before 11:30 p.m., capping off the evening. The dance floor buzzed with music from renowned DJs including Carl Cox, Martin Garrix, David Guetta, and Peggy Gou.
Celebrity Guests and Pre-Wedding Festivities
The event was reportedly coordinated by celebrity wedding planner Alessandra Grillo. Among the notable attendees were Donatella Versace, Charli XCX, The 1975 drummer George Daniel, actor Joe Alwyn, Mark Ronson and his wife Grace Gummer, Kevin Turner, Laura Vandall, Edgar Kerri, and singer Olivia Dean.
The wedding festivities began with a welcome party on Friday night. The chosen venue featured bookcases as a decorative element, a subtle nod to how Lipa and Turner first met. Their initial encounter occurred at The River Cafe in London, where they were introduced by owner Ruthie Rogers. Although the meeting was brief, they reconnected a year later in 2024.
Singer Dua Lipa recounted to Vogue her initial impression of Turner, thinking, ‘Oh, it’s that really hot guy from the River Café.’ Her interest was further piqued when she noticed he was reading the same book as her, Hernán Díaz’s ‘Trust.’ She expressed a strong belief in destiny, telling Vogue, ‘1,000 per cent.’ Turner later elaborated on this moment in an interview, describing the coincidence of reading the same book and sharing their progress with each other.
The wedding party arrived in Palermo on Thursday, joined by numerous guests, including Charli XCX and their respective parents. Guests were accommodated at the luxurious Igiea hotel, and a yacht party was held on Thursday night. On Friday, the couple hosted another party at Galleria Moderna, where the bride was seen in a custom Bottega Veneta dress and a feathered clutch.
Local Reactions and Historical Context
The extensive celebrations did not go unnoticed by local residents. Posters appeared in Palermo expressing discontent, with messages such as ‘Palermo is not for rent. Public spaces belong to everyone’ and ‘Our square is not your living room.’
Villa Valguarnera itself has a complex history. Once a Mafia stronghold, it was later taken over by Vittoria Alliata Di Villafranca. The property was briefly controlled by the local mob in the 1980s, who reportedly harbored plans to convert it into a casino and famously stole a statue of Cyclops using a helicopter.
The bride’s family and friends were transported to the villa, with locals reportedly pulling over to watch and shout ‘Viva gli sposi’ – long live the bride and groom. A security perimeter was established around the villa, which is also known for its appearance in the popular series ‘The White Lotus.’
