Tragic Collision Claims Life, Leaves Former Athlete Fighting for Survival
A devastating hit-and-run incident on a Colorado sidewalk has left a former Penn State football player in critical condition and claimed the life of his fiancée. The collision occurred on the morning of June 1, when a driver reportedly veered onto the sidewalk, striking three pedestrians.
Vasey’s Condition and Family’s Plea
Kyle Vasey, 30, a former long snapper for Penn State and briefly with the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons, sustained severe injuries, including multiple fractures. He is currently hospitalized and on a ventilator. His family has established a GoFundMe page to help with mounting medical expenses, reporting that his left arm is the only limb not affected by the crash. Vasey has undergone six surgeries to address three spine fractures and four broken ribs.
His fiancée, 35-year-old Corinne More, was tragically killed at the scene. A third pedestrian, 72-year-old Dianne Windes, also suffered multiple injuries and was transported to the hospital.
Driver Apprehended After Fleeing Scene
Witnesses at the scene in Highlands Ranch described the driver as having intentionally driven into the pedestrians. The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. Reports indicate that after striking the group, the driver made a U-turn, drove slowly past the wreckage, and fled the area.
Another witness pursued the fleeing vehicle for over five miles to Daniels Park, where authorities apprehended the driver, identified as 28-year-old Adam Bauserman, approximately 15 minutes later. Police reports describe Bauserman as unusually quiet, reportedly asking officers, “Do you know if I killed the man?”
Investigation and Official Statements
Investigators do not believe the driver knew any of the victims. An affidavit from a doctor following the incident stated that Vasey was “at substantial risk for permanent disfigurement or death.”
Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly commented on the incident, stating, “He should never have been on the roadway, period. And so, the fact that somebody in our community has been lost in such a tragic, horrible way. How many lives have been destroyed by this selfish act?”
Regarding witness accounts suggesting the act was deliberate, Sheriff Weekly indicated, “If we can prove that, we’ll certainly do that, but at this point we have no indication of that.”
Bauserman, who reportedly had a previously revoked license due to a DUI, is facing charges related to the crash. The community has placed flowers at the site of the collision in remembrance of Ms. More and in support of Mr. Vasey’s recovery.
