Fugitive Bikie Hospitalized After Police Dog Apprehension

A member of an outlaw motorcycle gang in the Northern Territory is recovering in hospital after being bitten by a police dog during his recapture following a five-day escape. Brandt Graham, 44, is facing new charges, including escaping lawful custody and possessing illicit drugs and a prohibited weapon.

Dramatic Courtroom Escape and Manhunt

The incident began last week when Graham allegedly jumped the dock at the Darwin Local Court and fled from security guards during a hearing. This triggered an extensive manhunt across the region.

On Tuesday, police apprehended Graham in the Palmerston suburb of Durack. Authorities reported that a police patrol dog, named Cheeko, tracked Graham through bushland after he reportedly attempted to flee again. Body-worn camera footage captured the moment of his capture, showing him shirtless and on the ground as officers detained him.

Arrest Details and Alleged Discoveries

Upon his arrest, officers allege Graham was found with a significant quantity of methamphetamine, a butterfly knife, and cash. He sustained lacerations to his shoulder and bicep during the apprehension, according to police. He remains under guard at the hospital, with the necessity of surgery yet to be confirmed.

Previous Charges and Ongoing Investigations

Graham, identified as a patched member of the Mongols motorcycle gang, was already facing drug and firearm charges from a prior arrest related to his alleged involvement in a large-scale drug supply network operating across Darwin and East Arnhem Land.

During Graham’s time on the run, law enforcement indicated they believed he was receiving assistance from associates. To date, seven individuals have been arrested on outstanding warrants, breach of bail, and drug-related offenses. One of these individuals is accused of aiding and abetting the escape.

Court Proceedings

Graham’s lawyer informed the Darwin Local Court on Friday that her client could not attend in person due to his hospitalization following the incident with the police dog. All three of Graham’s pending court matters are scheduled to return to court in August.
