Actress Justene Alpert Reveals Devastating Pregnancy Loss
Actress Justene Alpert, known for her roles in popular television series such as 9-1-1 and How I Met Your Mother, has publicly shared the deeply personal and painful experience of terminating her pregnancy last December. The 36-year-old star detailed the ‘nightmare’ decision in a candid Instagram post, explaining it followed a devastating prognosis for her unborn child.
Alpert revealed that she and her husband, Mason Trueblood, had just begun sharing the joyous news of their pregnancy with family and friends when they received the challenging medical update. Doctors identified a rare genetic disorder in their baby, leading to a profound and difficult choice.
A Difficult Prognosis and a Heartbreaking Decision
In her statement, Alpert recounted the specialist’s words, which addressed not only the baby’s condition but also the significant health risks she faced due to her age. ‘The specialist spoke to us not only about our baby’s condition but the high risks that I would be subjected to as a woman my age,’ she wrote.
The actress explained that her medical team strongly advised ending the pregnancy swiftly, citing concerns that the baby might not survive to full term. She described the period leading up to the termination, stating, ‘On December 22 my happiness was taken from me,’ during her first trimester.
Navigating Grief During the Holidays
Alpert shared the profound grief she and her husband endured, attempting to find moments of joy during the holiday season. ‘My husband and I tried so hard to savor Christmas Eve and Christmas with our baby boy, fighting through the grief each day,’ she communicated to her followers.
The couple ultimately had to say goodbye to their son on December 29. Reflecting on the ordeal, Alpert expressed the immense burden of such a decision, stating, ‘We didn’t want to have to make this decision. No mom or dad should ever have to be put in this place.’
Advocating for Open Discussion on Pregnancy Loss
The entertainer highlighted the often-unspoken nature of such experiences, noting that they do not receive the same societal understanding or support as other forms of pregnancy loss. ‘It’s the worst pain and many suffer silently out of fear of being judged or simply misunderstood,’ she explained.
Alpert referred to her son as Mads Mason Trueblood, acknowledging that he was ‘so loved and so adored already’ as he returned to heaven. She also expressed deep gratitude for her support network, emphasizing their importance during this trying time.
A Husband’s Strength and Enduring Love
Furthermore, Alpert offered a touching tribute to her husband, Mason, describing how the harrowing experience deepened her love for him. She spoke of renewing her vows, saying she would marry him ‘100 times over’ and praising his unwavering support through ‘better or for worse. In sickness and in health.’
The actress concluded her heartfelt message with a declaration of eternal love for her son: ‘I loved you then, I love you now and I will love you forever.’
