Manhattan Gold Corporation has announced significant findings from its initial drilling campaign at the Hook Lake project in Nunavut, Canada. The company reported a substantial intercept of 41.15 metres grading 4.66 grams per tonne (g/t) gold, encountered at a depth of 83.82 metres. This discovery, located at the Jaws gold target, includes a high-grade core section measuring 7.62 metres that yielded an impressive 18.67 g/t gold from 85.34 metres. Further analysis revealed two individual 1.52-metre samples within this core returning exceptionally high grades of 41 g/t and 33.4 g/t gold.
Hook Lake Project Highlights Significant Gold Potential
The Hook Lake project is situated in Nunavut, a region experiencing increased exploration activity. Major mining companies, including B2Gold, are actively exploring in the area, which is also home to Agnico Eagle’s Meliadine operation, one of Canada’s largest gold mines. The recent results from Manhattan Gold Corporation’s drilling represent a notable improvement over historical data from the late 1980s, where a nearby drillhole returned 22 metres at 2.41 g/t gold. The company states that the new intercept is considerably wider and possesses a higher grade, indicating the presence of high-grade gold shoots within a larger mineralized zone.
Eric Sondergaard, technical advisor for Manhattan Gold Corporation, commented on the findings, stating, “These are exceptional first results for Manhattan. An intercept of 41.15m at 4.66g/t gold, including 7.62m at 18.67g/t, materially elevates the scale and grade potential of the Jaws system.” He further elaborated that the results confirm Jaws hosts very high-grade shoots within a broad mineralized envelope, significantly outperforming the nearest historical intercept in both width and grade.
Drilling Results and Geological Insights
The maiden drilling program at Hook Lake has yielded encouraging results beyond the primary Jaws target. Several other drillholes have provided valuable data, contributing to a refined geological model for the area. One hole intersected a broad mineralized system of 79.25 metres grading 0.78 g/t gold from a shallow depth of 38.10 metres, with a higher-grade section of 9.14 metres assaying 2.54 g/t gold within this zone. Additionally, other intercepts included 9.15 metres at 1.99 g/t gold from 153.92 metres, and another 9.15 metres at 1.73 g/t gold from 35.05 metres.
Crucially, the drilling has led to a significant update of the geological model for the Jaws target. New data suggests the main shear zone is located 20 to 30 metres northwest of previous estimations based on historical records. This recalibration provides a more robust framework for targeting what the company interprets as high-grade plunging gold shoots. The Jaws target previously held a non-JORC foreign estimate of 3.4 million tonnes at 2.38 g/t gold for 285,000 ounces, established from drilling in the late 1980s.
Expanding Exploration at Hook Lake
Manhattan’s initial reverse circulation drilling program at the 665-square-kilometre Hook Lake project has now completed over 3000 metres across 13 drillholes, with numerous assays still pending. The project encompasses 12 other promising targets in addition to Jaws. Prospects such as Vanquish, Quantum, and Lotus, which have never been drilled, have shown potential with surface gold samples returning grades of 20 g/t, 16.75 g/t, and 8.01 g/t, respectively.
Following the successful results at Jaws, the company has relocated its drill rig to the Spectre prospect, a high-grade copper-zinc target. Spectre is classified as a volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) target and has historical drill results indicating significant potential, including an intercept of 10.51 metres grading 2.91% copper, 6.70% zinc, 95.67 g/t silver, and 1.04 g/t gold.
Further exploration activities are planned, including a regional till sampling program designed to assess extensions and identify other targets within the Omega banded iron formation. An airborne magnetic survey is also in progress to refine the geological understanding across the expansive project area.
Future Outlook and Project Potential
The company’s maiden drill results have significantly enhanced the perceived grade and scale of the Jaws gold system. Coupled with a refined geological model aimed at identifying further high-grade shoots and the commencement of drilling at the high-grade Spectre VMS target, Manhattan appears poised for continued exploration success in the Canadian north. The ongoing work at Hook Lake, combined with the potential of its numerous other targets, positions the company to further explore and define the resource potential of this underexplored district.
