A website that allegedly hosted hundreds of videos of women and girls being filmed without their consent has become inaccessible following an investigation. The site, which reportedly featured content captured in public spaces across London, including shopping centres and Tube stations, has either been taken offline or made private.

Website Inaccessibility Follows Investigation

The platform, which claimed to possess approximately 400 videos, has ceased to be publicly available. Reports indicate that the site now displays a ‘Page Not Found’ error or requires an administrator or subscriber password for access. It remains unclear whether the site has been entirely shut down, geo-blocked to prevent access from the UK, or simply moved to a different server or domain.

The website’s content allegedly focused on victims filmed while going about their daily activities in various London locations, often while wearing clothing such as shorts or leggings. A preview of around 50 videos was reportedly available for free, with full access requiring a $50 payment via PayPal. Many individuals featured in the alleged videos appeared to be underage.

Official Reactions and Victim Impact

While the nature of the site’s content is deeply disturbing, regulatory bodies have confirmed their non-involvement in its takedown. Ofcom, the UK’s communications regulator, stated that they did not take down the website. Authorities have been contacted for comment regarding the alleged illegal activity and the platform’s operation.

A spokesperson for the Mayor of London condemned the act of ‘upskirting’ as appalling, illegal, and predatory behaviour. The Mayor’s office expressed support for the investigation that brought the issue to light and emphasized that perpetrators should face the full force of the law. Upskirting, the act of taking a photograph up a person’s skirt without their consent, was made a specific criminal offence in England and Wales in 2019.

One individual, Eranta Ntatsi, a 29-year-old mother of two, shared her harrowing experience of being filmed without her knowledge. She was captured on video while walking on Wood Green’s High Road. Ntatsi described the experience as feeling ‘raped in the moment’ and expressed profound feelings of violation and abuse upon discovering the footage.

A Victim’s Account of Discovery and Violation

Ntatsi recounted that the incident occurred approximately three years prior when she was leaving a bank after collecting maternity payments. She had no awareness of being filmed at the time. The discovery came weeks later when an individual, who followed her husband’s social media activity, recognised her and shared the footage.

Upon viewing the video, Ntatsi reported feeling intense disgust. She articulated the distress of being filmed while engaged in ordinary activities, such as pushing her baby in a pram, and realizing that someone was deriving sexual gratification from it. The violation of her privacy and personal space has had a significant emotional impact.

Broader Concerns and Ongoing Investigations

The existence of such websites raises significant concerns about online safety, privacy, and the exploitation of individuals, particularly minors. Law enforcement agencies are expected to investigate the origins and operators of the platform to ensure accountability. The accessibility of such content, even for a limited period, highlights the challenges in combating online abuse and protecting vulnerable individuals.

The swift action to make the website inaccessible, whether by its operators or through external intervention, is a critical step. However, the underlying issue of upskirting and the creation and distribution of non-consensual intimate imagery remains a serious concern for law enforcement and victim support organizations. Efforts to track down and prosecute those involved in such activities are ongoing, aiming to deter future occurrences and provide justice for victims.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the persistent threats to personal privacy and safety in public spaces and online. Authorities continue to urge anyone who has been a victim of upskirting or similar offences to report it to the police, providing crucial information that can aid in investigations and prosecutions.
