Soap enthusiasts seeking their regular dose of drama will find their viewing schedule altered this week due to live football coverage on ITV. The popular British serial drama, Emmerdale, along with its counterpart Coronation Street, will not air on Wednesday, September 16th. ITV1 is dedicating its prime-time slot to the live broadcast of a significant Carabao Cup third-round fixture.

Carabao Cup Clash Impacts Emmerdale Broadcast

The disruption stems from the highly anticipated Carabao Cup match between Manchester United and Brighton & Hove Albion. ITV holds the terrestrial television broadcasting rights for this particular game, necessitating a schedule change. Live coverage of the match is set to commence on ITV1 at 7:30 PM, extending until 10:25 PM, with the actual kick-off scheduled for 8:00 PM. This extensive live sports programming means that the usual evening slots for both Emmerdale and Coronation Street have been temporarily suspended.

Revised Viewing Schedule for Emmerdale

Both serial dramas are completely off the air for the entire evening of Wednesday, September 16th. Viewers eager to follow the unfolding storylines in Yorkshire will need to wait until Thursday to resume their viewing. Normal broadcasting is expected to return on Thursday evening, allowing audiences to catch up on the drama.

Emmerdale’s Schedule Breakdown for the Week:

  • Wednesday, September 16: No episode will be broadcast due to live Carabao Cup coverage (Manchester United vs. Brighton & Hove Albion on ITV1).
  • Thursday, September 17: The episode will air as usual from 8:00 PM to 8:30 PM on ITV1.
  • Friday, September 18: The episode will air as usual from 8:00 PM to 8:30 PM on ITV1.

No Sunday Catch-Up Episode Scheduled

Historically, when live sports events cause mid-week schedule interruptions, ITV has sometimes compensated by scheduling an additional episode on Sunday evenings to help viewers stay current with the storylines. However, for this particular week, this arrangement will not be in place. Current television listings indicate that no Emmerdale or Coronation Street episodes are planned for Sunday night, September 20th. ITV has chosen not to implement a weekend soap broadcast block to make up for the Wednesday cancellation.

Accessing Episodes on ITVX and YouTube

Typically, new episodes of Emmerdale become available for streaming on the ITVX platform and official YouTube channels from 7:00 AM on the day they are scheduled to be broadcast on television. This early morning release allows dedicated fans to watch episodes at their convenience before the evening broadcast. However, this benefit is suspended during the current schedule disruption. ITV’s digital release policy is directly linked to the scheduled television broadcast for that day. Consequently, because no episode is airing on ITV1 on Wednesday, September 16th, there will be no new episode released on ITVX or YouTube at 7:00 AM on that date either.

Resuming Normal Viewing

Regular viewers can anticipate the return to the standard broadcast schedule on Thursday, September 17th. The morning streaming routine on ITVX will also resume its normal pattern from Thursday onwards. For those who prefer to watch on traditional television, tuning into ITV1 on Thursday evening will provide the restored service and the continuation of the week’s dramatic narratives. The interruption, while inconvenient for some, is a temporary measure necessitated by the broadcaster’s commitment to live sporting events, ensuring that major football fixtures receive prominent airtime.

Fans are advised to check their local TV listings or the ITVX schedule for any further minor adjustments, although the primary schedule is expected to be back on track from Thursday. The absence of the Wednesday episode means that the narrative progression will simply be delayed by one day, with the storylines continuing seamlessly from Thursday onwards.
