Adrian Grenier expresses mixed feelings about rumors of an Entourage reboot while sharing his disappointment over exclusion from The Devil Wears Prada sequel.
Interest in Entourage Revival
The 49-year-old actor, known for portraying Vincent Chase, shows enthusiasm for returning to the satirical HBO series that aired from 2004 to 2011. Grenier states, “I would love to do the show again, obviously.”
However, he feels torn, noting the show’s iconic status. “It’s an iconic show that defined an era,” Grenier explains. “I don’t know how we would do that today, because we’d have to address a lot of things that are current.”
He acknowledges the challenge of recapturing the original vibe: “It’s a time and a moment and a vibe that I don’t think you can replicate.” Despite this, Grenier sees potential in updating the characters for modern times. “The characters are still relevant, and the way they would deal with modernity is interesting,” he says. He envisions fun scenarios, like Johnny ‘Drama’ Chase as an AI avatar.
Grenier rallies fans: “Yeah, I want to do it. Are you gonna start a movement? If the fans demand it, we have to do it.” Practical hurdles remain, including the need for a strong script and funding. “That’s how it works. That’s just the biz,” he adds.
Exclusion from Devil Wears Prada 2
Grenier recently addressed his absence from the upcoming sequel starring Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep. His character, Nate Cooper—Andy Sachs’ boyfriend in the 2006 original—does not appear, as the trailer reveals a new love interest for Hathaway’s character.
“Obviously, it was a disappointment that I didn’t get the call to be in the sequel,” Grenier admits. He attributes the decision partly to backlash against Nate’s actions in the first film but stays optimistic. “I also understand there’s some backlash with Nate, the character, so that might have something to do with it.”
Looking ahead, he pitches a spinoff: “But I think that just leaves room for a spinoff. Either way, it leaves room for a beautiful spinoff in which Nate has his own film.” Grenier emphasizes shared fandom: “We’re all fans of the movie, whether or not we’re in it.”
Entourage followed Vincent Chase and his entourage—Eric Murphy (Kevin Connolly), Turtle (Jerry Ferrara), Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven), and Johnny ‘Drama’ Chase (Kevin Dillon)—through Hollywood. Inspired by Mark Wahlberg’s career, the series earned multiple Primetime Emmy and Golden Globe awards over eight seasons.
