Co-executive producer Amanda Overton, who wrote the saga-defining scene, explains that Vi (voiced by Hailee Steinfeld) has “misplaced everybody she cherished,” and it’s throughout a second of worry and honesty that she tells Caitlyn (voiced by Katie Leung), “Everybody in my life has modified.
