Former WWE Star’s Political Comments Spark Backlash
Simone Garcia Johnson, known professionally as Ava Raine and daughter of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, has ignited controversy with social media remarks about immigration enforcement policies. The now-deleted tweet targeting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and former President Donald Trump’s administration came days after her WWE departure was confirmed.
Controversial Statements Follow Career Transition
The 22-year-old former NXT general manager shared a blunt message on social media platform X before deleting her entire account: “And now that I can say this with my full chest, (middle finger emoji) ICE and that entire administration.” This occurred amid nationwide demonstrations following fatal shootings involving Minnesota residents believed to be migrants.
Raine’s political commentary follows previous controversial statements, including remarks about commentator Charlie Kirk after his assassination that some considered insensitive. Her latest criticism aligns with protests organized under the ‘ICE Out’ initiative, which saw thousands participate in work stoppages and demonstrations across Minneapolis and other cities.
WWE Departure Announcement
Johnson’s daughter confirmed her WWE exit through an Instagram statement: “This past Tuesday was my last appearance on NXT &, subsequently, WWE. Thank you to all who have cheered, watched, and supported me through my journey.” She described the decision not to renew her contract as “very difficult.”
The wrestling personality began her WWE career in 2020 after an injury disrupted her New York University plans. After transitioning from in-ring competition to backstage roles in 2023, she became NXT’s youngest-ever general manager before her recent departure.
Immigration Enforcement Context
Raine’s comments come amid increased ICE operations across major U.S. cities as part of heightened immigration enforcement measures. Recent weeks have seen federal raids escalate, resulting in multiple fatalities including Minnesota nurse Alex Pretti and mother Renee Nicole Good.
Public figures including musicians Ariana Grande and Billie Eilish have similarly criticized immigration policies following the Minnesota shootings, with protests continuing for multiple weeks in Minneapolis.
