The Cleveland Browns’ quest for quarterback stability persists beyond Shedeur Sanders’ 2025 arrival. General Manager Andrew Berry voiced uncertainty at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis, stating it remains too early to determine if Sanders or veteran Deshaun Watson secures the starting role for the 2026 season.

Multiple Quarterback Options Emerge

Sources confirm the Browns evaluate several quarterback prospects, including free agent Malik Willis, Alabama’s Ty Simpson—a projected first-round draft pick—and Watson. New head coach Todd Monken expresses interest in Watson, despite his challenges with sexual misconduct allegations, inconsistent performance, and injuries.

Watson has settled 27 lawsuits from women alleging inappropriate conduct during massages. He returns from two ruptured Achilles tendons and has not completed a full season since 2020. Yet, recent reports note he appeared sharp during December practices. With the Browns, Watson holds a 9-10 starting record and faces sacks on nearly 12% of dropbacks.

Sanders’ Mixed Rookie Campaign

Shedeur Sanders, Deion Sanders’ son, experienced an uneven rookie year. Projected as a first-rounder, he slipped to the fifth round in the 2025 NFL Draft before earning unexpected Pro Bowl honors. In seven starts, he posted a 3-4 record, seven touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. Public backing from President Donald Trump highlighted his early promise.

The Browns’ defense ranked fourth in yards allowed last season, but the offense lagged near the bottom of the league. Monken, formerly Baltimore’s offensive coordinator, signals potential changes.

Offensive Line Faces Total Turnover

Former right guard Wyatt Teller announced on Instagram his entry into free agency for 2026, joining starters Cam Robinson, Ethan Pocic, Jack Conklin, and Joel Bitonio. The entire offensive line now seeks new teams.

Draft Picks Offer Rebuild Path

Holding the sixth and 24th picks in the April draft, the Browns eye offensive linemen additions to protect the Week 1 starter. Trading down remains an option to acquire more selections and bolster the roster.
