Former NFL MVP Cam Newton declares he will never marry, citing his nine children with three women as a key reason. The 36-year-old ex-Carolina Panthers quarterback compares marriage to taking a hostage during a recent appearance on the TalkLesShow.

Newton’s Stance on Commitment

Newton emphasizes surrounding himself with willing partners. “I want to be around who wants to be around me,” he stated. “So if that’s five, if it’s six, if it’s one. I like volunteers. I don’t like hostages.”

He further explains that happiness doesn’t require a ring. “I just want you to be happy, and if I’m the person that’s bringing you happiness, you can have marriage with no commitment, and you don’t have to have marriage to have a commitment,” Newton added.

The former star insists marriage holds no value for him. “I don’t think it to be anything,” he reiterated. “I want people around me who want me to be around me and I want them around me.”

Critique of Marriage Traditions

Newton likens marriage to a “gift-giving contest.” “Are we doing life together or is this a competition? So you’re basically saying if I don’t give you a ring, you’re not going to love me as much,” he questioned. “You can have a ring with no love and love with no ring.”

Recent Family Developments

In October, Newton welcomed his latest child with girlfriend Jasmin Brown. He remains committed to the mothers of his children, describing those ties as “one of those family business type of situations.” Newton vows to stay “forever indebted” to them “no matter how they make me feel.”

Podcast Remarks on Women and Children

Last month on the ‘It’s Giving’ podcast, Newton sparked debate by stating a woman’s value diminishes with multiple children from different fathers. “I just think that the reality of that answer is that a woman’s value gets lowered the more children that they have,” he said.

During a discussion with one of the mothers, he advised: “The guy that you’re dating or will date, if he ain’t willing to love on these five children that you have, he ain’t the guy for you.”
