Canada Border Services Agency officers intercepted 1,010 kilograms of illicit drugs from three commercial trucks attempting to cross the Canada-U.S. border at Coutts, Alberta. The seizures included cocaine, methamphetamine, suspected heroin, and dode derived from opium poppies.
Details of the Seizures
First Seizure: November 26, 2025
A truck declared to carry electrolyte beverages for Calgary underwent a thorough inspection with assistance from a CBSA detector dog. Officers discovered 461 kilograms of suspected heroin and one gram of opium hidden inside.
Second Seizure: December 2, 2025
Another truck arrived pulling an empty trailer. A search revealed 300 kilograms of cocaine and 400 grams of suspected dode from opium poppies concealed in the cab.
Third Seizure: December 8, 2025
The final truck claimed to transport vacuum parts to Calgary. Officers uncovered 206 kilograms of methamphetamine during the examination.
In each incident, authorities arrested the drivers on smuggling charges and transferred them to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for further processing.
Annual Enforcement in Alberta
Throughout 2025, CBSA officers in Alberta conducted 1,292 drug seizures, confiscating 1,054 kilograms of cocaine and 279 kilograms of methamphetamine.
