Charli XCX has shared her thoughts on the possibility of recording a James Bond theme song, expressing doubt about her suitability while remaining open to the opportunity if approached.
Reflections on a Bond Theme
The ‘Brat’ artist recently appeared on The Julia Cunningham Show, where she addressed the idea of contributing a signature track to the iconic spy franchise. ‘I got to say, I don’t think that I am built for that,’ she stated. ‘I think I probably sing with too much Auto-Tune to do a James Bond.’
Despite her reservations, Charli XCX added a note of optimism: ‘Never say never. I’m open to it if they want to call me, which they won’t but, yeah. I think it might not be a fit, but that’s, well, yeah. It’s not going to happen now, is it? So amazing. I don’t know.’
Recent and Upcoming Ventures
Charli XCX currently focuses on her soundtrack for Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of Wuthering Heights, featuring Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie. The album releases on February 13 and is available for pre-order.
She plans to expand her acting career with several projects scheduled over the next year. This follows her revelation of drawing more inspiration from film than music after completing ‘Brat,’ which left her feeling ‘stuck, empty and barren.’ In May 2025, she hinted that her next non-soundtrack album would differ significantly from ‘Brat’ and might underperform, stating: ‘You can never really do the same thing twice and my next record will probably be a flop, which I’m down for to be honest.’
Additionally, her mockumentary The Moment arrives in UK cinemas on February 20.
James Bond Franchise Developments
The Bond series boasts a storied lineup of theme songs from artists like Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey, and Paul McCartney in earlier eras, with recent contributions from Adele, Sam Smith, and Billie Eilish.
Amazon MGM assumed creative oversight of the franchise last year. Denis Villeneuve directs the next installment, with Steven Knight handling the screenplay. Producers seek a ‘fresh face’ for the lead role following Daniel Craig’s departure after No Time to Die in 2021. Callum Turner currently leads betting odds as the frontrunner.
Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher has also expressed interest in a Bond theme, calling it ‘an absolute honour’ and emphasizing that ‘those kind of things should be done by Brits not Yanks.’
