Enzo Fernandez remains suspended for Chelsea’s Premier League clash against Manchester City on Sunday, despite delivering a personal apology to Liam Rosenior. Rosenior maintains that several hurdles persist before resolving the midfielder’s two-match ban.
Fernandez missed Chelsea’s FA Cup quarter-final triumph over Port Vale as punishment for comments during the recent international break that suggested interest in Real Madrid. His agent, Javier Pastore, has voiced strong support for the player.
Rosenior Addresses the Suspension
Chelsea’s Liam Rosenior confirmed the ongoing ban, stating: “He’s apologised to me, he’s apologised to the club, and we’ll deal with that after a massive game on Sunday.”
Elaborating further, Rosenior said: “It’s a serious meeting about something very serious. I’m not questioning Enzo’s character, I’m not questioning who he is as a person.”
“I believe people make mistakes and you can’t overstep the punishment for the mistake. We’ve made a sanction, we made a decision, I made a decision, and what I want for Enzo is for him to come on here and have an outstanding career.”
“He won’t play on Sunday, but hopefully after that, he’ll be a massive part of the group moving forward. There are still a few hurdles that need to be overcome that I won’t go into, but at the same time I want every player really, really focused now on a huge run.”
Details of Fernandez’s Comments
While on international duty with Argentina, where Fernandez serves as vice-captain, he shared his wish to reside in Madrid and lauded Real Madrid icons Toni Kroos and Luka Modric. These remarks followed prior statements expressing doubt about staying at Chelsea past the summer and critiquing the club’s departure from former manager Enzo Maresca.
Next Matches and Team News
Chelsea face Manchester United at Stamford Bridge next, another pivotal Premier League fixture, though Fernandez’s involvement looks uncertain pending resolution of the issues.
The team will also lack Reece James, Trevoh Chalobah, and Levi Colwill for the City game. James has started running again but needs additional time to achieve full match fitness.
