Sarah Ferguson, known as Fergie, has a proven track record of rebounding from scandals throughout her public life. In contrast, Prince Andrew has struggled to regain public favor, particularly after his 2019 interview defending against sexual assault allegations—which he denies—and explaining his association with Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex offender.

Decline in Royal Standing

More than six years after that interview prompted him to withdraw from royal duties, Prince Andrew faces ongoing challenges. He resides in a remote Norfolk property, with staff reportedly living in an on-site mobile home for constant support. Currently under investigation for misconduct in public office, he has limited allies. Princess Anne reportedly offered him accommodation on her estate, but King Charles maintains distance from his younger brother. Ferguson, once describing them as the “happiest divorced couple,” now keeps her distance.

Ferguson was recently sighted at a luxury hotel in Ireland as scrutiny intensifies over her and Andrew’s ties to Epstein. Public and media attention focuses on their communications with him, which continued well after they publicly cut ties.

Revealed Epstein Messages

Exchanged messages highlight a complex relationship. One apparent message from Ferguson congratulates Epstein on a baby boy: “Don’t know if you are still on this bbm [BlackBerry Messenger] but heard from The Duke that you have had a baby boy. Even though you never kept in touch, I still am here with love, friendship and congratulations on your baby boy. Sarah xx.” Minutes later, a follow-up expressed anger: “You have disappeared. I did not even know you were having a baby. It was sooooo crystal clear to me that you were only friends with me to get to Andrew.” Epstein’s paternity of any children remains unconfirmed; such a child would now be about 14 years old.

Strategies for Comeback

Sources indicate Ferguson recognizes the need to distance herself from Andrew amid the scandal and his police probe, while seeking financial stability. Reports suggest both may pursue tell-all memoirs to attempt image rehabilitation, with Ferguson also eyeing reality television.

PR Expert Weighs In

PR specialist Mayah Riaz views memoirs as a plausible path for controversy-plagued figures. “I don’t think the idea of memoirs from Andrew and Fergie feels far-fetched at all,” she states. “In today’s media landscape, a ‘tell-all’ is often seen as the fastest route to reframing the narrative and, in some cases, monetising notoriety. That said, I’d say that is a very high-risk strategy.”

Riaz notes Andrew faces steeper hurdles: “For Andrew in particular, any attempt at a personal account would be met with intense scrutiny and scepticism.” For Ferguson, success hinges on tone: “A memoir from her could land better if it leans into reflection, resilience and accountability rather than revelation. The tone will be everything.”

She warns of backlash risks: “In terms of brand impact, a poorly judged memoir could be reputationally fatal. We’ve seen that audiences have long memories and very little tolerance for anything that feels like deflection or self-pity.” Authentic alternatives exist: “Another way would be to reposition through purpose, which could involve them aligning with meaningful work. Whether that’s charity, advocacy or business, it could help shift the conversation, but again the key is that it absolutely has to feel authentic.”

Ultimate success depends on reception: “If they do go ahead with memoirs, it will be less about what they reveal and more about how credible and self-aware they come across. That’s what will ultimately decide whether it’s a comeback or another setback.”
