A 52-year-old security guard, Gary Stanley, died after being stabbed while on duty at the Centre MK shopping centre in Milton Keynes.
Emergency services responded to reports of a stabbing around 5:10pm on Saturday. Paramedics attempted to save Gary, also known as Stan to friends, but he passed away at the scene.
Arrest Made in Murder Investigation
Thames Valley Police launched a murder inquiry and arrested a 50-year-old man from Towcester on suspicion of murder. The suspect remains in custody, and authorities state there is no threat to the wider public. An increased police presence continues at the shopping centre during the ongoing probe.
Tributes Honor ‘Gentle Giant’
Friends and family remember Gary as a ‘gentle giant’ who worked hard and helped others without hesitation. A tribute from Bhav, a member of the Facebook page The Security Squad, reads: ‘Gary was a gentle giant. A man who worked hard, loved deeply, and would help anyone without hesitation. The kind of man you felt safe around. The kind you don’t replace.’
Gary leaves behind his wife, son, and two grandchildren. Social media posts highlight his role in the Milton Keynes community, with one stating: ‘Rest in peace to a valued member of our Milton Keynes, Gary Stanley. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and everyone affected. Gone too soon, but never forgotten.’
Another colleague shared: ‘I worked alongside this kind man on the doors for many years and he was always calm, fair and funny. How could anyone take your life like that while you were simply doing your job.’
Police Statement
Chief Superintendent Emma Baillie commented: ‘We are in the very early stages of this murder investigation, but we have made an arrest and we are not currently looking for anyone else. Members of the public are likely to see an increased police presence while we continue to investigate and we would advise anyone with any concerns to please speak to one of our uniformed officers.’
