Ernesto Valverde revealed on Friday that his third tenure at Athletic Bilbao concludes in May, with speculation positioning Andoni Iraola as a leading candidate to succeed the 62-year-old.

Iraola Dismisses Bilbao Links

Andoni Iraola, current Bournemouth manager, quickly refuted any personal involvement in the Athletic Bilbao vacancy. “No, it doesn’t have anything to do with me,” Iraola stated. “Probably as a supporter because it is my club but no it doesn’t affect the situation.”

He emphasized his satisfaction at Bournemouth, noting, “I’ve said it a lot of times I’m very happy here. I have a great relationship with the club and it’s true that we will have to take a decision according to this but it’s a situation I have had most of my years as manager. It is not new to me.”

Pundits Endorse Iraola for Manchester United

Football pundit Jamie Redknapp hailed Iraola as an elite coach, praising Bournemouth’s dynamic style. “I love the way that Bournemouth play and he has been an absolute revelation,” Redknapp said. “I think he could definitely do [the Manchester United job]. Bournemouth play with high energy and tempo that I think Manchester United would want.”

Redknapp added, “I think he could definitely do that job.”

Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole also supported the idea. “Yeah, why not? He’s a good manager,” Cole responded. He highlighted Bournemouth’s achievements under Iraola: “I think to get Bournemouth in the positions they find themselves in, playing really good football and bringing in good players, that is a big bonus.”

Cole noted, “I have watched them quite a bit this season, they are a good team. Finishing mid-table again for such a small club is a testament to him.”
