Author Jane Fallon, 65 and longtime partner of comedian Ricky Gervais, addressed a malicious fake obituary that spread online shortly after she disclosed her breast cancer diagnosis.
Cancer Diagnosis Details
Jane revealed her diagnosis last month, noting it was caught at a very early stage with an excellent prognosis. A routine mammogram just before Christmas detected an anomaly despite no prior symptoms. Follow-up tests, including additional mammograms, biopsies, and an MRI, confirmed the issue.
“About a month ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer – very early stage thankfully & the prognosis is excellent,” she shared on Instagram. “I had a routine mammogram a week before Christmas. I had no symptoms but the brilliant radiographer spotted something iffy & sent me for further tests & eventually a biopsy. Since then I’ve had more mammograms, more biopsies and an MRI so they can pinpoint the problem area precisely. It’s been a lot, I’m not going to lie.”
She urged fans not to panic upon hearing the news.
Surgery and Recovery Progress
Jane underwent surgery late last month and reported feeling remarkably fine afterward, maintaining good spirits. She awaits final medical clearance, with results expected in 8-10 days to confirm clear margins—a small chance exists for additional surgery if needed.
Currently resting at home, she enjoys support from her cat, Pickles.
Response to Fake Obituary
After spotting the fake death notice, Jane posted about it on X but quickly removed the update. “I’ve taken the post about the obituary down, because I don’t want people to think I’m upset by it. I’m not. P***ed off yes,” she explained. “But more, I just want people to know that any photos you see of me in hospital, looking sad or with tubes sticking out of me are 100% fake – AI generated.”
Personal Background
Jane has shared a relationship with Ricky Gervais for over 40 years, since meeting in 1982. A prolific writer, she has authored 14 bestselling novels, including Getting Rid of Matthew, Got You Back, Queen Bee, Worst Idea Ever, and Faking Friends.
