Jessie Buckley Sets Conditions for James Bond Appearance

Oscar and BAFTA nominee Jessie Buckley es willingness to portray a Bond girl in Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming James Bond film, provided two key conditions are met: Paul Mescal plays James Bond, and the story unfolds in Ireland.

During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the 36-year-old Irish actress enthusiastically stated: “Yes please. As long as I can be the Bond girl and we can set it in Ireland.” Buckley and Mescal previously co-starred in Hamnet, fueling speculation about their on-screen chemistry extending to the 007 franchise.

Industry observers view Buckley as a top contender for the Bond girl role following her Golden Globes win for best actress. She recently earned a best actress Oscar nomination and a BAFTA nod in the leading role category.

Career Highlights and Personal Insights

Beyond Hamnet, Buckley stars opposite Christian Bale in The Bride. Mescal appears in one of four upcoming Beatles biopics. Buckley also shared candid thoughts on romance, noting: “I think love is terrifying. I have been scared of love for a lot of my life.” She added it took time to grasp love’s meaning for her, likening it to cooking a meal rather than an instant project: “Sometimes love at first sight, it’s too much of a project idea…you can’t just make a meal. You have to cook it.”

Speculation Surrounding Next James Bond

Discussions intensify over Daniel Craig’s successor after No Time to Die in 2021. Potential candidates include Paul Mescal, Jacob Elordi, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and British actor Callum Turner.

While promoting Rosebush Pruning, Turner faced questions about the role. Body language analysis reveals signs of pressure: he swung his chair side to side, pressed his lips together with mouth corners inward, and tightened his jaw—indicators of suppressed excitement and restraint under scrutiny.
