John Paesano, acclaimed composer for Marvel’s Spider-Man games and Netflix’s Daredevil series, teams up with longtime Zelda veteran Koji Kondo to create the soundtrack for the upcoming live-action Legend of Zelda film.
Movie Production Details
The Legend of Zelda adaptation, announced in November 2023 after the blockbuster Super Mario Bros. Movie, enters production under director Wes Ball, known for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Bo Bragason portrays Princess Zelda, while Benjamin Evan Ainsworth takes on the role of Link. Filming currently unfolds in New Zealand’s stunning landscapes.
In November 2025, Nintendo shared initial images from the set. Producer Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed progress via an official post: “We’ve begun principal photography for the live-action Legend of Zelda movie amid magnificent natural scenery, starring Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. Production advances smoothly, so please follow developments quietly. The film arrives in theaters on May 7, 2027. Thank you for your patience.”
Composers’ Backgrounds
The film’s IMDb listing confirms Paesano’s role alongside Kondo, who has shaped the Zelda series since its 1986 debut and recently contributed to the Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Paesano previously collaborated with Ball on 2024’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and the Maze Runner trilogy. His portfolio includes a BAFTA-winning score for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, plus work on Gran Turismo 7, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and Mass Effect: Andromeda.
Broader Nintendo Plans
The project targets a May 2027 release. Recent updates suggest Nintendo prepares a remastered Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and a new Star Fox game later this year, with a fresh 3D Mario title slated for 2027. Miyamoto recently dismissed rumors of a Super Smash Bros.-style crossover film, following Fox McCloud’s key appearance in the Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa outlines a strategy for steady film releases, including a potential third Super Mario entry and a Donkey Kong spin-off. Separately, The Pokémon Company announces immersive Pokémon experiences in London, Berlin, and Paris.
