Lauren Conrad expresses her desire to step away from reality television following the airing of the 20th anniversary special The Reunion: Laguna Beach on the Roku Channel this Friday.
Podcast Teaser Reveals Retirement Plans
In a teaser for Kristin Cavallari’s podcast Let’s Be Honest, the 40-year-old designer shares her wish to conclude her entertainment career. “I would love to put a pin in my career,” Conrad states. “It would be really cool to end my career with the same people I started it with.”
Cavallari, her 39-year-old former castmate, chimes in: “…hang up that entertainment hat.” Conrad responds enthusiastically, “God, I hope so,” adding, “I don’t [miss it at all].”
From Laguna Beach to The Hills
Conrad first gained fame as an 18-year-old senior at Laguna Beach High School. MTV cast her alongside Cavallari, Lo Bosworth, and Stephen Colletti for the initial two seasons of Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County in 2004-2005.
She later starred in five seasons of the spin-off The Hills from 2006-2009, describing it as “the easiest money I ever made” but noting she joined because she “was broke.” The series drew criticism for scripted drama, including her well-known feud with Cavallari over Colletti.
Conrad declined to participate in MTV’s 2019 revival The Hills: New Beginnings but accepted the role of executive producer for this one-off reunion.
Embracing a Quieter Life
“I’m so happy,” Conrad reflects. “I feel so lucky… I enjoyed it while I had it. We had fun. It was great. And I’m really grateful for the opportunity.” She credits her past work for enabling her current lifestyle, which centers on family and friends.
Married for 11 years to musician William Tell of Something Corporate—whom she began dating in 2012—Conrad has two sons: Liam, 8, and Charlie, 6. Tell’s band has an upcoming show on August 6 at the Theatre of Living Arts in Philadelphia.
She focuses on her businesses, including the clothing line LC Lauren Conrad and the children’s brand Little Co., both available at Kohl’s. Despite 5.8 million Instagram followers, Conrad posts rarely, perhaps once a year.
