A mother-daughter duo conducted a detailed taste test pitting McVitie’s classic biscuits against Marks & Spencer’s versions, uncovering a clear favorite in both categories.
Milk Chocolate Digestives Showdown
McVitie’s Digestives have long dominated since 1830, featuring a thin chocolate layer over a rich, flavorful base. Yet, Laura Khoshaba and her mother Ann struggled to pick a winner at first.
Ann noted the M&S version “looks prettier,” but taste took precedence. Sampling McVitie’s, Laura ed her love for Chocolate Digestives, while Ann called it “good.” During the dunk test, Laura deemed it “amazing,” and Ann confirmed she buys them regularly as they are “really good.” These biscuits retail for £1.50 at B&M and other supermarkets.
Turning to M&S, Laura praised its crunchier texture and “amazing” chocolate. Ann declared the M&S chocolate “the best.” After dunking, Laura stuck with M&S as her top choice, though she added both are “really nice.” M&S Chocolate Digestives cost £1.25, undercutting McVitie’s.
Jaffa Cakes Comparison
Next came Jaffa Cakes, where shapes differed: McVitie’s round, M&S rectangular. Laura loves McVitie’s, but Ann found too much jam.
McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes sell for £1.25 at Morrisons. The M&S version impressed more, described as “a million times better” with less jam. Ann raved about the superior chocolate and nicer biscuit base, plus the thinner profile avoided being “too sickly.”
Viewers reacted in comments, urging no disrespect to McVitie’s and noting many prefer Cadbury’s or McVitie’s over the upscale M&S options.
