Married At First Sight bride Bec Zacharia has disclosed a troubling off-camera encounter involving a fellow cast member. The 35-year-old contestant described how a co-star faced verbal abuse from a stranger in a supermarket, leaving her in tears over backlash from the show’s episodes.
The Supermarket Confrontation
Bec received a frantic call from the unnamed bride, who was shopping for groceries when approached aggressively. “I have just had a phone call from one of my fellow MAFS castmates in floods of tears,” Bec stated in an emotional video. “She was walking through a supermarket and someone felt that it was acceptable to walk up to her and swear at her because of what they’ve seen on an episode of MAFS.”
Bec emphasized the co-star’s vulnerability as a single woman navigating everyday life. “She’s a single female just trying to walk through a supermarket and yet people think that it’s OK to do that,” she added.
Widespread Online Abuse
Bec highlighted the relentless online harassment affecting the cast since the season aired. “I can’t open up any social media platform without seeing utter abuse,” she said. “You’ve seen all of us on TV for minutes and it’s actually insane to me.”
She urged viewers to consider the human impact. “It costs nothing to be kind,” Bec noted. “You’re seeing an edited reality TV show. It’s not acceptable. The hate is insane.” Bec hopes her message prompts reflection: “We’re just human beings that believe in love and yet she doesn’t feel safe enough to walk into her own supermarket now.”
Ending her plea, Bec called out critics directly: “Enough of the hate, man. You’ve watched 15 minutes of hours and hours of footage. Do better people.”
Network’s Participant Support
Nine, the network behind Married At First Sight, underscores its commitment to cast wellbeing. “Nine and Endemol Shine take their obligations in respect to the health and wellbeing of the participants of this program extremely seriously,” the statement reads.
All contestants access show psychologists and welfare resources during filming, broadcast, and beyond. An additional confidential service provides ongoing psychological support from clinicians.
To shield participants from negativity, Nine manages their social media accounts this season with permission. “Nine also provides all participants with social media support for the duration of the show,” the network confirmed. “All participants have agreed not to be on social media at this time.”
Echoes of Past Experiences
Bec’s account mirrors challenges faced by former bride Olivia Frazer, who endured death threats and severe online abuse post-show. The backlash severely impacted her mental health and daily life, extending beyond screen criticism into real-world distress.
This incident sparks renewed discussion on reality TV’s toll, as viewer outrage spills from screens into participants’ personal spaces.
