Manchester United prepare to strengthen their Champions League push with a key match against Bournemouth on Friday evening. A victory would widen their three-point lead in third place under interim manager Michael Carrick, following a crucial win over Aston Villa. Contributions from Casemiro, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko have sparked renewed optimism since Carrick took charge.
The squad faces absences due to injuries for Noussair Mazraoui and Lisandro Martinez, but Mason Mount returns after recovering from injury.
Carrick Outlines Cautious Approach for Mount
Michael Carrick confirms he will ease Mason Mount back into action rather than thrusting the 27-year-old straight into the starting lineup. Mount rejoined the squad for the Villa game but has not featured since Carrick’s debut two months ago.
“Starting would be too much, I think, at this point, [for Mason],” Carrick stated. “Just for the training time and the exposure he’s had, really.”
He added, “But it’s brilliant to have him back. He’s a fantastic player, Mason, and great to have around the group again. So [I’m] delighted to have him back and, obviously, the break coming up now gives him a chance to get even more up to speed. So, in some ways, that’s come at a good time for him.”
Sancho Draws Interest from Former Club Dortmund
Jadon Sancho, currently on loan from Manchester United to Aston Villa, emerges as a target for Borussia Dortmund. Reports indicate Dortmund hopes to bring the winger back for a third stint when his United contract expires this summer.
Dortmund opted against signing wingers in the recent transfer window due to Niko Kovac’s tactics, but the manager now supports pursuing Sancho. The England international joined United in a major 2021 deal from Dortmund, struggled to shine, and returned briefly to Germany in 2024. Last season saw him at Chelsea, before a late move to Villa, where he has played 18 league games this campaign.
