Okay-Pop Demon Hunters followers, brace yourselves — it’s going to be a number of years earlier than we get the sequel.
Netflix and Sony are reportedly aiming for a 2029 launch for Okay-Pop Demon Hunters 2, in keeping with Deadline on November 5, 2025. Whereas that’s an extended wait, it’s not too shocking — animated options of this scale take time to craft.
The timing comes on the heels of Netflix’s record-breaking hit including almost $6 million to its unique $19 million August take, pushing its home gross near $25 million. With over 325 million views, Okay-Pop Demon Hunters is formally Netflix’s most-watched film ever. It even grew to become the primary Netflix movie to hit No. 1 on the field workplace again in late August with a two-day gross of $19 million.
The soundtrack has been simply as dominant. After seven nonconsecutive weeks as runner-up, the Okay-Pop Demon Hunters album topped Billboard’s Prime 200 on September 20, went platinum, and noticed the hit monitor “Golden” declare the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Scorching 100 on August 11. The franchise’s reputation has even led Netflix to associate with Mattel and Hasbro as world co-master toy licensees.
Directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, the film follows Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (Could Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo), younger pop stars in Huntr/X whose household demon-slaying legacy has them searching demons after they aren’t performing for sold-out arenas. Their largest enemy (voiced by Lee Byung-hun) creates a rival Okay-pop boy band designed to steal the souls of their followers, forcing Huntr/X to combat more durable than ever to maintain the world protected — and their friendship intact.
Talking with Leisure Weekly in August 2025, Kang hinted at the opportunity of a sequel whereas reflecting on the challenges of bringing such a sprawling story to life.
“We had been making an attempt to do a non-origin origin story with an idea that’s model new to folks,” she defined. “What’s it about these women that introduced them into HUNTR/X and made them demon hunters? What’s every of their backstory? How did they get chosen? What’s that journey like?”
She continued, “There was actually not an area for the film to indicate all that. So we actually needed to make these selections of what’s important to the story, and that’s the info that we are going to present.”
Making these choices wasn’t simple. “I believe that was one of many hardest issues we stored getting requested: ‘Please present us this.’ ‘I believe the viewers goes to need to know this or that,’” Kang mentioned. “We simply made choices to be like, ‘Nope, that’s not important to this story for this film, and possibly that may be proven another time.’”
If a sequel involves life, she added, “Then we are able to reveal extra of that backstory.”
