Residents in central and eastern Prince Edward Island may encounter challenging weather conditions from Sunday evening through Monday afternoon, with significant snowfall and strong winds anticipated.

Weather Statement Highlights Risks

Environment Canada has released a special weather statement for Queens and Kings counties, alerting to substantial snow accumulation and powerful gusts. In the eastern parts of Kings County, accumulations could reach 10 to 20 centimetres, accompanied by northeasterly winds gusting between 60 and 80 kilometres per hour.

The statement indicates that travel will worsen Sunday evening as snow builds up, winds intensify, and blowing snow reduces visibility. Utility outages remain a potential concern in affected regions, where overall snowfall is projected at 10 to 20 centimetres.

Meteorologist’s Forecast and Preparations

Meteorologist Jay Scotland noted that the storm’s projected track positions the heaviest impacts south and east of the province. Western areas might escape major snowfall, though northeasterly to northerly winds could still generate blowing and drifting snow.

“Residents should prepare for hazardous roads and reduced visibility from Sunday night until Monday afternoon,” Scotland advised. Blizzard-like conditions are possible, with wind gusts ranging from 50 to over 80 km/h during that period.
