A prominent UK bar chain operating 34 venues, including spots in Birmingham and Solihull, closes three sites within a single month. The latest announcement involves a popular Bournemouth nightclub shutting its doors on March 15 after two years of operation.

Recent Venue Shutdowns

Popworld confirms closures in Bournemouth, Nuneaton, and Cheltenham over the past month. The Bournemouth site retires following successful trading, marking the third closure in this period.

Nuneaton’s Farewell

In Nuneaton, the venue on Church Street, which opened in 2018 replacing Reflex, closes on February 21 after eight years. Popworld Nuneaton states: “After 8 unforgettable years, we are deeply saddened to announce that Popworld Nuneaton is officially closing its doors for the last time on Saturday 21st Feb.”

The announcement continues: “Since opening in 2018, we’ve shared countless memories with you – from the wild dancefloor moments to the iconic tunes, fancy dress, and everything in between. You’ve laughed with us, danced with us and created memories that will live on, far beyond our closing night.”

It adds: “We want to extend a massive thank you to each and every one of you who has supported us over the years – whether you popped in for one night or made us part of your regular weekend ritual.” The final night promises a goodbye in true Popworld style: “It’s been emotional. It’s been messy. It’s been incredible.”

Community Reactions and Venue History

Social media users express disappointment, with one stating: “I am so sad it’s going.” Another shares: “One of the best memories.”

The Church Street building, a staple in Nuneaton’s nightlife, traces back to the 1800s as The Queens Head, later becoming the Pen and Wig, Reflex, and then Popworld. Its future remains uncertain amid nearby regeneration projects, including Justice Walk on Church Street and Bridge to Living on Bridge Street.
